Simulation and Exergoeconomic Analysis of a Trigeneration System Based on Biofuels from Spent Coffee Grounds

Biofuels have become a source of renewable energy to offset the use fossil fuels and meet demand for electricity, heat, cooling in industrial sector. This study aims (a) develop simulation trigeneration system based on gas turbine cycle an absorption chiller unit, using biomass syngas from spent coffee grounds (SCGs) replace conventional currently supplying requirements instant plant located Guayaquil, Ecuador, (b) carry out exergoeconomic analysis simulated compare effects different fuels. The results showed increase exergetic efficiency 51.9% 84.5% when instead non-integrated system. Furthermore, biomass-based was found lowest operating costs ($154.7/h) heating, cooling, power ($10.3/GJ, $20.2/GJ, $23.4/GJ, respectively). Therefore, this reveal that SCGs as biofuel is feasible producing steam, chilled water, power.
